Lavon Growth Watch Heats Up As EDC Eyes Land, Business Deals And County Plat Fight Delays
Lavon had money, land, and growth all moving at once this week. School Road purchases and Main Street activity kept the pressure on, and the next round could bring the real reveal.
Presented By
Economic Development Corporation
Lavon EDC Weighed Property Buy, Main Street Update, And New Business Deals
The Lavon Economic Development Corporation agenda for June 8, 2026, centered on money, property, and business growth at City Hall on School Road. The board was set to review current finances, get an update on a Main Street project, look at marketing efforts, and hold a public hearing on buying two nearby properties. The agenda also pointed to closed-door talks about possible business incentives and land along key roads, which could matter to residents watching how Lavon grows.
Financials Came Up For Review
The board was asked to consider the corporation’s financials. That gave members a chance to look over the numbers and weigh the group’s current position before taking up other spending and development items on the agenda. For residents, that is the basic money check tied to how much room the EDC may have for future projects.
Main Street Project 619 Was Back On The Agenda
Board members were set to consider an update, and possible action if needed, on Project 619 Main Street construction. The agenda did not spell out the details of the update, but the item signaled that work tied to Main Street remained active. For people who live, drive, or do business nearby, any shift in that project could affect what comes next in that area.
Marketing Plans For Economic Development Were Up For Consideration
The EDC also had economic development marketing activities on the agenda. That meant the board was scheduled to look at how Lavon promotes itself for business and growth. While that can sound abstract, it often connects to how the city tries to attract new investment, shoppers, employers, or development over time.
Public Hearing Targeted Two School Road Properties
One of the biggest items was a public hearing on a proposed purchase of properties at 121 School Rd. and 125 School Rd. The agenda said the board would hear a presentation, take public comments, and then consider authorizing the purchases using sales tax and use tax proceeds in the annual budget. Each property was listed at $30,000, with added costs for title insurance, surveys, and real estate services. The item was also tied to pending City Council approval after a second reading, so this was not a done deal.
Closed-Door Talks Focused On Business Incentives
The board was also scheduled to enter executive session to deliberate possible financial or other incentives for a business along SH78 and Main Street, including a sewer infrastructure project. The closed session list also named Project Chalkboard 27, Project Ignite, Project Pathways, Project Hot, and Project Rise and Shine. Those project names gave little away publicly, but they pointed to ongoing efforts that could shape future business activity in town.
Real Estate Along Major Corridors Drew Attention
In that same executive session, the EDC was set to discuss the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property along Main Street, SH78, School Road, FM2755, and SH205. That put some of Lavon’s best-known corridors in play for possible future development moves. Residents tracking traffic, growth, or nearby land changes had plenty of reason to keep an eye on what may return for public action later.

Collin County Commissioners Court
Lavon Residents Put On Watch As Contested North Collin Plat Gets Delayed
Collin County Commissioners Court on June 8 mostly handled countywide business, but one major land use item drew heavy public attention and could matter to Lavon residents who follow growth, infrastructure strain, and county development decisions. The court also made a public safety funding change that affects how some local fire dispatch costs will be handled across the county.
Restore The Grasslands Plat Delayed Two Weeks
Commissioners did not vote on the final plat for a development called Restore the Grasslands. County staff asked the court to hold the item until June 22 so staff and the developer’s attorney can sort out which approval conditions have and have not been satisfied. The project is in Parker and Collin County Municipal Utility District No. 7, not Lavon, so it is not a city-specific Lavon project, but it was one of the meeting’s biggest development discussions and showed how the county is handling disputed plats.
Fire Dispatch Billing Shift Moves Forward
Commissioners voted to begin billing cities and other entities directly for fire dispatch service starting Oct. 1, instead of the county continuing to absorb those costs in the same way it has for some fire partners. Lavon residents are served by county-level emergency systems and regional fire coordination, but the meeting discussion did not identify Lavon as one of the affected entities. County officials said the change is part of the transition after voters created the county’s emergency services district.
